IR Spectral Interpretation I

What You Will Learn
Learn how to interpret an infrared spectrum to determine unknown molecular structures and to perform identities properly. The course introduces a systematic, 10-step approach to interpreting spectra, then the diagnostic infrared bands of many economically important molecules are presented. Attendees interpret many unknown spectra in class with the help of the instructor. The course includes the 260 page hardcover book Infrared Spectral Interpretation written by Dr. Brian Smith and published by CRC Press.

Who Should Attend
Anyone concerned with gaining chemical or structural information from infrared spectra.

Topics
The Fundamentals of Infrared Interpretation
Functional Group Analysis of Hydrocarbons
Alcohols & Phenols
The Carbonyl (C=O) Functional Group
Organic Nitrogen Compounds
Infrared Spectra of Polymers
Includes the 200-page text IR Spectral Interpretation

Instructor
Dr. Brian Smith is a principal of Spectros Associates. Since 1992, thousands of scientists, engineeers, and technicians have benefited from his instruction in IR Spectral interpretation and the theory and practice of FTIR spectroscopy. Dr. Smith has over two decades of experience as an industrial analytical chemist, and has authored two books and numerous papers on infrared spectroscopy and its applications. Dr. Smith earned hs Ph.D. in Chemistry from Dartmouth College.
